Stormwater Utility
The City of Washington's
stormwater utility manages the city-owned components of the public drainage
system. On-going maintenance, improvements to the existing system, and new
construction and/or modifications to meet new state and federal regulations
regarding stormwater runoff into surface waters all are important parts
of properly managing the public drainage system.
In July 2002, Washington
joined several other North Carolina cities in implementing a Stormwater
Service Charge to city residents, businesses, and institutions to
help pay for improvements to the city-owned components of the public drainage
system. This fee appears on city utility bills coded as SF.
