Seasonal Sports & Activities


Organized Sports

Basketball
Registration begins in early November. Games begin early in January. Youth participants must be the required age by Jan. 1 of the following year. Call Recreation Office (252-975-9367 ext 221 for League Contact information)

Youth Basketball Leagues

  • Mite, ages 6-7
  • Small Fry, ages 8-9
  • Youth, ages 10-11  
  • Junior, ages 14-15
  • Senior, ages 16-18
  • Girls, ages 7-8, 9-12 and 10-13 

Soccer
Sign-up begins in July. Games begin in September. Participants must be the required age by October 16 of the same year. The soccer program is sponsored by the Washington Optimist Club, which posts standings and other information on its website. Call Recreation Office (252-975-9367 ext 221 for League Contact information)

Youth Soccer Leagues (all leagues are co-ed)

  • Prep (age 4)
  • Mite (ages 5-6)
  • Division I (ages 7-8)
  • Division II (ages 9-10)
  • Division III (ages 11-12)
  • Division IV (ages 13-15)
  • Division V (ages 16-18)

Volleyball
Sign-up begins in early August. Registration of adult teams is made by team managers.

Baseball and Softball
Sign-up begins in early February. Baseball participants must be the required age as of April 30 of the same year. Softball participants must be the required age as of Jan. 1 of the same year. Girls leagues play high school rules. There are a variety of leagues is offered for boys and girls, ages 4-16, and boys ages 16-18, depending upon interest. Summer Programs
Sign-up begins in early May.  Participants must be required aged by June 1 of the same year.  Call the Recreation Department in early April to obtain Activity list.  252-975-9367 ext. 221.

Football
Sign-up begins in early August. Participants in the Community Tackle or Flag Football League must be attending public school in the community they play in. Private or home-schooled children may choose the community they will play for. Participants must be the required age by October 16 of the same year. Call Recreation Office (252-975-9367 ext 221 for League Contact information)

  • Community Flag, Boys ages 5-6
  • Community Flag, Boys ages 7-8
  • Community Tackle, Boys, ages 9-10
  • Community Tackle, Boys, ages 11-12

Other Activities

Special Olympics
Special Olympics assistance is given to Beaufort County Developmental Center with sports training and athletic competition for individuals with disabilities.

Adult Programs
Arranged as needed. Announcements are made in the Washington Daily News and on the city's Government Access Channel. For more information, call or visit the Recreation Office at 310 W. Main Street, (252) 975-9367.

Punt, Pass and Kick
Local punt, pass and kick competition is sponsored for boys and girls ages 9-15 in mid-September.
