Library Program Assistant – Brown Library


Performs a variety of library work in providing programming, circulation, collection, development and other activities with primary responsibility for Children’s programs, including Summer reading program.  Must have knowledge of computer applications and utilization in a library and ability to plan and coordinate programs and services for children and youth.  High school graduate with library work experience, preferably in children’s programming.  Must be flexible and able to work variable work schedule including some nights and weekends. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.  No phone calls to the library please.

Salary Grade:  12
Starting Salary:  $23,892

Planner – Community Development and Planning


Performs professional work planning and supporting various community and neighborhood organizations, downtown development and historic preservation.    Develops and assures compliance with various grants related to community development and affordable housing, economic and downtown development.    Requires strong public contact skills, meeting facilitation and public speaking skills,  attention to details, and ability to work effectively with community groups, state and federal agencies, and other public officials and City departments.  Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in planning, public administration, business administration, or related field and 3 to 5 years experience in land use planning and/or community development work; or equivalent.  AICP and community development certification preferred.  Valid NCDL driver’s license.  Must reside in city limits within 12 months.
 
Salary Grade:  23
Minimum Starting Salary:  $40,864

Police Officer


Performs general duty law enforcement work to protect life and property in the City.  Work includes patrolling the City during assigned shift in a police car or on foot; preventing, detecting and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments.  High school graduate or equivalent.  Possession of a Basic Law Enforcement Certification or currently enrolled in training program.  Valid NCDL driver’s license. Thorough background investigation.  Physical exam, psychological exam and drug screen required.

  
Salary Grade:  17  
Salary Range:  $30,493 - $45,130 depending upon experience and qualifications*

Part-time Dock Attendant - Parks and Recreation


Provide oversight and recordkeeping for the City’s waterfront docks.  Work will involve a variety of technical and maintenance duties in providing patron and facilities services as well as clerical record keeping responsibilities.  Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, approximately 15-20 hours per week.  Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office Word & Excel and ability to interact and communicate effectively with the public.  Graduation from high school with previous experience in customer relations and administrative office or clerical work, boat handling, and/or facility maintenance desirable.

 
Pay Rate:  $9.00/hr.

Part-time Aquatic/Fitness Instructor – Parks and Recreation


Water Aerobics instructor with prior experience teaching and/or developing aquatic fitness programs.  Requires American Red Cross CPR & First Aid certified or able to obtain.  Hours are  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. during the summer months) 

 Pay Rate:  $9.00/hr.
